PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University Director of Athletics Lou Zadecky was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Garth Pleasant Athletic Director of the Year, the association announced at its annual convention in Portland, Maine June 2.
The annual award is bestowed upon an Athletic Director in the association who has made positive and meaningful contributions to their institution and the USCAA, and it is presented each year during the USCAA National Convention.
It is the first time Zadecky has earned the honor, which is voted on by the USCAA Board of Directors.
Throughout the year, Zadecky served on various USCAA committees, supporting and promoting the association and its members. He worked alongside campus staff to provide USCAA professional support at championships and to deliver the best experience possible for Carlow student-athletes, coaches and staff. Zadecky continually strives to represent the University and USCAA in a positive and respectful light.
Carlow's membership with the USCAA offers student-athletes an opportunity to compete for championships at a national level in 12 different sports.
"I am very humbled to receive this incredible award. Words cannot express how honored I am to be in the same group with the great administrators before me," Zadecky said. "It feels truly special to know your peers see the hard work and effort you and everyone on your campus puts forth. I want to thank my wife and family for always supporting me through the long days and nights, the USCAA Board of Directors, USCAA Chief Operating Officer BJ Bertges, and the USCAA Directors of Athletics.
"I also want to thank Carlow University President Dr. Kathy W. Humphrey and Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Tim Phillips for the opportunity to do what I love to do. I especially want to thank Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Communications Karina Graziani, as well as our Athletics staff, coaches and student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to Carlow Athletics. Without all these individuals this award would not be possible. I am truly honored and grateful."
